Bio Medical Research (BMR) is an international company headquartered in Galway, Ireland with offices in London, New York and Paris. BMR develops, manufactures and markets medical products as well as consumer products under the Slendertone brand.
In October 2013, Atherton Stone was engaged on a 4 role assignment with BMR by the newly appointed VP of Digital & Ecommerce. The 4 positions were identical in terms of skillset – Ecommerce Managers to drive customer acquisition – but based in different geographical territories with particular language skills required for each role. It was vital that the assignment be completed within a set timeframe due to a number of scheduled internal ecommerce programmes. The added challenge of ensuring each candidate was aligned to the culture of the office they would be working in on a daily basis meant that the screening process was critical.
Atherton Stone placed the 4 roles with BMR over a 16 week period. When engaged, a role priority list was created and individual briefings took place to ensure the Research Teams understood the combination of languages required for each position (e.g. fluent French, Spanish and English for the role based in Paris). The team built a short list of 4 candidates for each vacancy which included a summary written by the candidate covering exposure to key technical tools and proficiency in the required languages.
Positions Recruited Include:
- Ecommerce Manager – France & Spain (based in Paris)
- Ecommerce Manager – Germany (based in London)
- Ecommerce Manager – America (based in New York)
Angus Simpson – VP, Global Head of Digital and E-Commerce
I have worked with Mark and the team at Atherton Stone at two companies and have always been impressed with the results. This assignment was particularly complex due to the geographical and language requirements for each role. Mark was able to quickly grasp the type of candidate I needed and provide a number of worthy candidates for each. Atherton Stone helped make the recruiting process an enjoyable and speedy one, which would be a great asset to any time constrained hiring manager.

Michaela Ewen – Ecommerce Manager, Germany
Mark and the team placed me in my role with BMR. Initially, they presented me with a job opportunity that 100% fitted my profile. After a more detailed chat about the role, the company, my work background and career prospects, Mark and I were convinced that we found a good match and that we should proceed.
The recruitment process was highly efficient. The job spec matched my skills. Interviews were organised by Mark within hours. He kept me in the loop of the process at all times and not once did I have to call for an update. Mark provided me with productive feedback and gave very useful advice to prepare for the interviews. A quick call before interviews and after interviews was very re-assuring throughout. I felt at all times in considerate and professional hands. I could feel that the team were really interested to do the best for both, the company and myself.
Summarizing, for me it has been a complete success story. Efficient, professional, to the point, quick turn around and I am extremely happy with how and where Mark brought me. I would recommend Atherton Stone to anyone.
